    4. How long does it take to obtain a permit?
    That depends on what type of permit. Generally single family permits and commercial permits can take up to 30 business days to process. Accessory permits and revisions can take up to 7 – 10 working business days.

    7. Can I fax my permit application to the Building Department?
    No, permit applications can be mailed, or submitted in person at the office.

    8. Who can view permits and applications?
    The ability to view permits and applications is open to the general public. Building permit applications entered after October 1, 2001, are available for viewing. Fire prevention applications are available from May 2001, forward. Most development review applications are available from February 2001, forward.

    9. Who can apply for building permits or schedule inspections over the internet?
    You must be a registered contractor in Martin County to apply for a permit or schedule an inspection over the internet. You must have a username and password to apply for permits. Contractors can now apply online for a limited type of permits after logging on to the website.

    11. How can I obtain a username and password?
    To obtain a username and password and receive an application manual, please contact Malina Colasuonno at (772) 288-5770 or Mary "Rosie" Hunter at (772) 288-5492. You will be requested to sign an affidavit that states that your username and password will substitute for your signature on the application. The affidavit will certify that no work or installation will commence prior to the issuance of a permit and that all work will be performed in accordance with Martin County Regulations.

    12. What types of applications are accepted over the internet?
    At this time, only a limited type of building permit applications are accepted over the internet. The list of available permit applications will be displayed after you log in and select “Apply for a Permit”.

    13. How will I know if the permit application I submitted online is approved or denied?
    After entering your application and credit card, you will receive an email, which includes your receipt and temporary permit tracking number. If your application is found insufficient, you will be contacted by email by the Building Department. When your application is approved, you will receive another email stating the balance due on the permit.  After receipt of the full payment, an email  will be sent stating your permit has been issued. This email will contain your permanent permit number and a link to print your permit card. Your permit card must be posted on the job site.

    14. How do I pay for the permit application?
    The application fees will be charged at the time of entry in US dollars. We accept all credit cards except Discover. Your credit card information will not be stored on any database. The payment will be processed through VeriSign Payment Services and all transactions are secured. When you click on the link to “Apply for a permit”, you will enter a secured website and will be notified.

    15. Does this website use cookies?
    The permit application process uses cookies to track the entering of your permit application. If you need to interrupt your application process, the cookie will store the application so that you can resume at a later time. Cookies are pieces of information that websites transfer to your computer’s hard drive for record-keeping purposes. The use of cookies is now an industry standard and you will find them used on almost every major website.

    16. How can I obtain a refund or cancel an application?
    In order to obtain a refund you must submit a letter requesting the refund, including the reason for the refund request. To cancel a permit you must submit a letter requesting to cancel the permit, including the reason for the cancellation. There is a $20 bookkeeping fee charged with each refund submitted.

    17. What is the accuracy and timeliness of permit information?
    At this time, only a limited type of building permit applications are accepted over the internet. The list of available permit applications will be displayed after you log in and select “Apply for a Permit”. Currently fire prevention and development review applications may not be submitted over the internet. These applications must be submitted in paper format at our office, behind the Martin County Health Department.

    Go South on US1
    Turn Right on Monterey Road
    Turn Left on Willoughby Blvd. (Second light)
    Turn Left on Ruhnke Street (We are behind the Health Department)
    Turn Right into the Building Department Parking Lot

    From I-95:
    Go South on I-95
    Get off I-95 at the Stuart/Indiantown Exit - SR 76/Kanner Hwy
    Go Left (East) on SR 76/Kanner Hwy.  Turn Right on Indian Street
    Turn Left on Willoughby Blvd.
